About Honey Moon, Owner of 1 of a Find, NYC

At 15, vintage clothes hound and young entrepreneur Honey Moon opened the eponymous boutique “Honeys” with her mother in Northern California. The store front operation was small, but it had a big presence, specializing in vintage designer labels, collectable denim and street wear. Thanks to Honey’s great design eye, a large clientele of well-dressed locals, seasonal visitors and stylists was quickly established and a year later, the duo opened “Honey’s for Men”.

In 1995, both stores closed while Honey pursued a more conventional career in fashion. During this time, Honey realized that vintage clothing was her real passion and future. In 2001, she again began collecting items and doing private sales with her former clients from “Honeys”. As a new mom, Honey also discovered the opportunities of plying her trade from home on eBay. Soon she was reaching a worldwide clientele.

In 2007, Honey, her husband, two girls and four pets moved across the country to New York City. When her girls started school there Honey was ready to expand her business from her home back to the streets of her neighborhood. With much encouragement from her husband, friends and clients, Honey opened “1 of a Find Vintage” in Park Slope, Brooklyn in Spring 2008.  In Fall 2009, the store moved to its current and larger location. Prospect Heights is now home to our “1 of a Find” Collection.

Says Honey:

“My boutique is small and personal. I like to know my customers. Sometimes they poke their heads in to shop and chat, other times they request special items for special events. I am on a first-name basis with many customers, who quickly become regulars. Our store is small, a real “Boutique”.

My mother is still my west coast buyer. She and I hand pick each piece in the store to maintain cohesion and avoid chaos. I know that a choice vintage piece is priceless, but I want everyone to afford this luxury. I price pieces to move. I also work the store and don’t want to stare at the same piece for weeks on a hanger, however beautiful it is. I want to see it on someone. I want it to go home with someone who loves it and will give it another life.”
